Protest against Netanyahu's government

Thousands of people gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday to protest against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu. The demonstration took place three days before the upcoming legislative elections, which are expected to be very close.

Organizers of the protest

The event was organized by the October Council, a group formed by families of victims and hostages from October 7th. This date marks the day of the deadliest attack in Israeli history, carried out by the Palestinian group Hamas.

Demand for an investigative commission

The October Council is demanding the establishment of an investigative commission to look into security failures that allowed the Hamas attack. The government of Benjamin Netanyahu has refused this request, even though many Israelis have asked for it.

Opposition candidates’ promises

The main opposition figures running in the first elections since October 7, 2023, have all promised to set up the commission if they win. This issue has become a key point of contention in the election campaign.

Election results remain uncertain

In the final days before the elections, the latest polls continue to show a tight race. Netanyahu's bloc and the opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot are nearly tied, with 50 and 52 seats respectively. Neither side has reached the 61 seats needed to form a government.
