According to the Arcep, Orange holds the position of the number one mobile network in France, with 96% of the population covered by 4G and over 99% covered by its mobile network. The company has the largest 4G infrastructure park, with more than 32,000 sites. However, its 5G network is less extensive, with fewer than 16,000 sites. Orange has focused its 5G efforts on the 700 MHz frequency band, which provides more stable coverage, and has also begun using the 2.1 GHz band. According to the nPerf 2025 barometer, Orange ranked last in 5G performance due to the limited range of its 3.5 GHz sites. However, it showed the strongest progress among the four main operators and had the best 5G coverage in six of the 13 French regions. In terms of overall network speeds, Orange ranks third behind Bouygues Telecom and SFR according to the nPerf 2025 barometer. Orange is first in download speed tests and nearly tied with Bouygues Telecom in YouTube streaming video tests. The gap between Bouygues Telecom, SFR, and Orange is small, with only Free significantly outperforming them. In 5G, Orange remains in third place but stands out with average download speeds very close to those of Bouygues Telecom. This is likely due to its large number of sites using the 3.5 GHz band. On the fixed internet side, Orange's offers are less attractive in terms of the price-quality ratio. Its internet plans, whether through Livebox fiber or ADSL, do not provide the best performance on the fixed internet network. According to the nPerf 2025 barometer, Orange is second behind Bouygues Telecom. Wi-Fi performance is also second behind Bouygues Telecom. Orange lacks the 6 GHz frequency band, which can significantly boost speeds but may affect the range and stability of the connection. According to DegroupTest measurements, Orange offers the fastest fiber internet in average download and upload speeds since March 2026, surpassing Free and Bouygues Telecom. Orange has an 81% customer satisfaction rate and is rated highest in customer service for both mobile and fixed internet according to the Arcep Customer Satisfaction Observatory. The company offers a wide range of mobile plans with included options, but these are considered the most expensive on the market. Internet plans start at over 50€ per month with limited Wi-Fi 7 capabilities. Orange's mobile plans can cost up to 67.99 euros per month for the 300 Go 5G+ plan. The company also offers mobile plans that include smartphones, which come with a 24-month commitment period and financing options for the device. Orange has about 12.5 million customers on its internet plans and about 22.5 million on its mobile plans. The company has signed an agreement with Altice France to acquire SFR and share its activities for 20.35 billion euros. The completion of the operation is expected in the second half of 2027, pending approval from regulatory authorities. Some of the SFR subscribers will join Orange.
