The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt features legendary weapons that are highly sought after by players, with Aerondight, a powerful sword from the Blood and Wine expansion, being one of the most prized. While the sword first appeared in the original The Witcher game, it can only be obtained in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by completing the Blood and Wine DLC. To acquire Aerondight, players must complete a specific secondary quest called "Il ne peut en rester qu'un," which is triggered by speaking to a hermit located in the middle of a lake in the Toussaint region, directly north of the Beauclair palace. This quest challenges players to prove they possess five key virtues—Compassion, Generosity, Honor, Wisdom, and Value—required to wield the sword. Each virtue requires specific actions during different quests. For Compassion, players must spare a creature called the Shaelmaar and help a trapped panther, while also investigating a count's behavior. Generosity involves giving money to various characters, including a messenger, a cobbler, and purchasing a painting. To demonstrate Honor, players must tell the truth about a ghost-related conflict, compete in a tournament under the name Geralt de Riv, and defeat a prince in a duel. For Wisdom, players must save a family member, lift a curse, and explore a monster-infested lair. Finally, Value is shown by winning a tournament and allowing a character to recover a beast's head. After completing these tasks, players must return to the hermit and defeat him in a duel. Upon victory, the Lady of the Lake appears and grants the legendary sword Aerondight. Unlike other weapons, Aerondight does not have traditional stats but offers three rune slots and special effects. Each strike builds up energy that increases the sword's damage, and fully charging it ensures critical hits. Killing enemies with the sword fully charged also permanently boosts its damage, making it a powerful weapon throughout The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and potentially in the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion, set for release in early 2027.
