Richard Carapaz joins NSN Cycling for 2027-2029, leaving EF Education-EasyPost. The Ecuadorian climber brings experience and ambition to the Swiss team.
Carapaz joins NSN Cycling for three seasons
Richard Carapaz has officially signed with NSN Cycling for the next three seasons, from 2027 to 2029. The 33-year-old Ecuadorian climber will leave EF Education-EasyPost, despite a contract that was originally set to run until the end of 2027. The Swiss team has thus won the battle against Netcompany INEOS and Pinarello-Q36.5, who were also interested in the winner of the 2019 Giro d'Italia. Carapaz’s recovery and recent performance
After a difficult start to the season, marked notably by a surgical intervention to remove a perineal cyst, Carapaz has regained his best level during the summer. He won two mountain stages at the Tour de France, at Orcières-Merlette and Alpe d'Huez, and also won the mountains classification and the combativity prize. He then finished second at the Clásica San Sebastián, before taking fourth place in the general classification of La Vuelta. NSN strengthens its team with Carapaz’s arrival
This transfer represents a significant reinforcement for NSN, which continues its ambitious recruitment in preparation for 2027. The Swiss team had already attracted several top riders, including Kasper Asgreen, Santiago Buitrago, and Lennert Van Eetvelt. With the arrival of Carapaz for three seasons, the team has an experienced climber capable of targeting stage wins and playing a leading role in stage races. Carapaz expresses excitement about joining NSN
"For me, it's an extraordinary opportunity as a rider to be part of this project and, above all, to be one of the team leaders," Carapaz explains. "I am simply very excited. I am really looking forward to it, and honestly, it reminds me a lot of the moment when I signed my first professional contract, when I was incredibly happy to join the WorldTour. I still have the same motivation as at that time, and it's really an extraordinary feeling." Carapaz outlines his vision for the future with NSN
"I find the NSN project very interesting, and after our first discussions, I was convinced that it was the right place for me. I have achieved very good results throughout my career, especially in the Grand Tours, and this perfectly matches what NSN was looking for. The team has great ambitions and wants to continue to grow. From my discussions with the performance team, it was clear that we shared the same desire to progress and achieve great things together. I think the team has strong development potential and I am excited about the idea of participating in this adventure over the next three years," he concludes.
