A police surveillance unit observed a vehicle arriving with a female driver and three men inside. When the occupants were checked by police, a drone was found at the feet of the left rear passenger. According to the police, the drone was equipped with a mounting system, suggesting it was intended for use in some capacity. The vehicle and its occupants were taken to the police station for a search and placed under custody. The driver explained that she knew two of the passengers and stated that all three had traveled to Belfort to pick up a third man and bring him back to Besançon for a cigarette delivery. Two of the men confirmed the driver's account, with one stating he had been paid 100 euros for his involvement, though he did not reveal the name of his employer. The third individual confirmed he had been recruited by a third party to deliver packages but did not provide the name of his employer. He also admitted to delivering cigarettes using the drone to a prison. This admission suggested the drone was used for illegal activities, possibly related to contraband distribution. Following the investigation, the 21-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were brought before judicial authorities and received formal notices to appear in court. The third occupant, aged 19, was given a notice to appear on January 8, 2027. The 17-year-old drone pilot, who is a minor, was released after the investigation concluded. The case highlights the growing concern over the use of drones for illicit activities, particularly in areas with strict regulations on such technology.
