The Irish aircraft lessor Avolon has reached an agreement with the Qatari bank Lesha Bank to sell 33 aircraft currently operated by 25 airlines. The portfolio includes single-aisle aircraft, nine wide-body aircraft, and two regional aircraft. The estimated market value of these aircraft is 1.609 billion dollars, although the final sale price has not been revealed.
This transaction includes aircraft that are already under lease, meaning the 33 aircraft will be sold along with their existing lease agreements. After the deal is completed, the aircraft will be managed by Lesha Aviation Services. According to the two companies, the total number of aircraft managed by Lesha Bank will surpass 75 following the acquisition.
The sale highlights the importance of the secondary market in aviation financing. For Avolon, the transaction allows the company to sell assets and free up capital for other investments. "Aircraft trading is central to Avolon's strategy: it enables us to actively manage our portfolio, improve our assets, and reinvest our capital," said Avolon's chief executive, Andy Cronin, in a joint statement.
Details about the types of aircraft were not included in the joint statement but were later published by Bohai Leasing, Avolon's parent company. The lot includes 22 single-aisle aircraft, such as eight Airbus A320ceo, three A321ceo, one A320neo, eight Boeing 737-800, and two 737 MAX 8. It also includes nine wide-body aircraft, such as five A330ceo, one A330neo, three A350, and two Embraer ERJ190. As of June 1, 2026, these aircraft had an average age of 8.7 years and an average remaining lease term of 7.8 years. Bohai Leasing estimates their total market value at 1.609 billion dollars. The transfer of the aircraft is expected to be completed by March 31, 2027.
For Lesha Bank, the acquisition offers the benefit of diversifying risk across 25 lessees and several types of aircraft. "We expect this portfolio to generate stable and diversified returns for the years to come," said Mohammed Ismail Al Emadi, chief executive of Lesha Bank Group, in the joint statement. The bank includes this acquisition in its broader strategy of aviation investments that comply with Islamic law.
This sale is part of a strong sales performance by Avolon. The lessor reported selling 30 aircraft in the second quarter of 2026 and had, as of June 30, 109 additional aircraft whose sale had already been agreed upon. At that time, Avolon's fleet of owned, managed, and ordered aircraft totaled 1,117.
