AMD graphics cards gain access to Nvidia tech

Daniel Blanco, a developer, released version 0.8.0 of DLSS-NR on AMD, allowing Radeon graphics cards to use Nvidia's image technologies that are typically only available on GeForce RTX cards. The update was reported by Tom's Hardware on October 18.

Mod initially limited in functionality

When the mod was first launched on September 3, it only supported the neural rendering of DLSS 5, which could redraw game images but was not playable on Radeon cards. This limited the mod's usefulness for AMD users at the time.

New features enhance performance

The latest version of the mod introduces Super Resolution 4.5 scaling, image generation, and Ray Reconstruction, which improves ray tracing rendering. It also includes the latest neural rendering model, making it more versatile and powerful.

Filling a gap in AMD's technology

For owners of Radeon cards, this mod addresses a significant gap, as AMD has not yet developed an equivalent to Nvidia's neural rendering technology. While AMD is working on its own solution, its FSR tools are less commonly integrated into games compared to Nvidia's DLSS.

Supported hardware and game compatibility

The mod works with Radeon RX 6000, 7000, and 9000 series cards and is compatible with any DirectX 12 game that already supports FSR, DLSS, or XeSS from Intel. Once installed through the NeuralHub launcher, the mod replaces one of these options in the game settings.

Performance improvements and limitations

By late September, other modders had improved the DLSS 5 calculation time on an RX 7800 XT from 73 to 52 milliseconds. Daniel Blanco claims up to 100 frames per second in 1080p on an RX 9070 XT, though some effects are not fully functional yet. User feedback varies, with some reporting no performance loss and others experiencing a 25 percent drop in frames per second. The mod also does not work with anti-cheat systems, making it suitable only for single-player games.
