A 1982 Mercedes 500 SL, bought new and stored in a climate-controlled garage for over 40 years, has only driven 68 kilometers. The V8-powered roadster, which has 242 horsepower, was ordered from the Carols dealership in Wolverhampton with nearly all available options included. It was delivered by truck and locked away in a private garage, never registered and driven very little. The few kilometers recorded were from logistical movements in its first days. The car's story came to the attention of SLSHOP, a British specialist in Mercedes vehicles from the R107 series, about fifteen years ago at the NEC Classic Motor Show. The owner, Mr. Hough, initially refused to sell the car, stating that it was not just a valuable asset but a piece of engineering he wanted to preserve. The car was originally purchased for 24,400 £, equivalent to about 127,500 € today. Mr. Hough has kept the car in a climate-controlled garage on his property, where temperature and humidity are controlled, protecting it from UV exposure, rain, and salt. In August 2025, Mr. Hough recontacted SLSHOP to offer the car, with the condition that it continue to receive the same care as in his garage. In September 2025, the 500 SL underwent a complete inspection to verify its authenticity and overall condition. The report indicated that the protective treatment Waxoyl was still visible under the hood and along the exhaust, a product that typically disappears with use. No rust traces were found, the blue-green metallic paint remained deep, and the leather interior appeared new. The only deviation from the original was a replacement of the hood fabric with a silver sterling emblem made by the owner. Under the hood, the 5-liter atmospheric V8 M117 engine, producing 242 hp and 400 Nm, remained largely inactive. The car will not be sold and will be displayed in a permanent exhibition in a climate-controlled environment at SLSHOP in Stratford-upon-Avon.
