Damage assessment begins in Lyon

The Lyon Metropolis has started evaluating the financial damage caused by riots on October 17 and 24. Initial estimates show costs exceeding one million euros, with damage to public spaces, a fire at the Bellecour Tourism Office, and harm to the TCL public transport network.

Public space damage estimated at 700,000 euros

The Lyon Metropolis has estimated the cost of damage to public spaces under its management at 700,000 euros. This includes repairs to roads, artistic structures, and urban furniture, as well as expenses related to security personnel deployed during the riots.

Tourism Office fire costs 994,000 euros

The intentional fire at the Bellecour Tourism Office during the October 17 violence is estimated to cost 994,000 euros to restore. This is a significant expense, reflecting the extensive damage to the historic building.

Public transport damage totals 262,000 euros

The Lyon public transport network, operated by Sytral, has suffered material damage estimated at 262,000 euros. This includes graffiti, broken windows, and damage to TCL agencies, though the cost is considered lower than damage to roads.

Additional losses from parking and merchants

LPA Mobilités parking lots are estimated to have suffered an operating loss of 200,000 euros. In addition, the Metropolis has set aside 10 million euros in an emergency fund to support local merchants affected by the riots and looting.
