It's Batman Day, and what better way to celebrate than with a movie and TV show marathon? Here are 4 of my top 4K discs, plus a bonus Blu-ray, to enjoy the occasion. As both a Batman and 4K Blu-ray enthusiast, I wanted to share some of my favorite discs that highlight the character's rich history on screen. Batman first appeared in 1939, making him one of the most enduring and iconic figures in comic books and film. His first on-screen appearance was in a 1943 serial, followed by the 1966 television series starring Adam West and Burt Ward. Since then, Batman has been explored in countless animated series, movies, and other media, each bringing a unique take on the character. One of the latest big-screen adaptations, The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, explores Bruce Wayne’s early years as the Dark Knight. He must confront a serial killer known as The Riddler (Paul Dano) while uncovering corruption in Gotham and a mystery involving his family. This film is not only a compelling story but also a great disc for testing high-end TVs and sound systems. Its low brightness and high-contrast scenes provide excellent visual detail, while the Dolby Vision format enhances the experience on OLED TVs. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack is immersive, with precise sound mapping that showcases the full potential of a home theater system. Another notable entry is Batman Forever, directed by Joel Schumacher. This film took a more colorful approach, featuring Val Kilmer as Batman and a threat from Two-Face and The Riddler. While it remains divisive among fans, its 4K Blu-ray release is visually stunning, with vibrant colors and rich shadows. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack adds to the experience, with immersive sound effects and dynamic music. The Dark Knight, part of Christopher Nolan's trilogy, features Christian Bale as Batman facing off against the Joker, played by the late Heath Ledger. The 4K Blu-ray of this film is particularly impressive, with rich detail in IMAX scenes and excellent high-contrast visuals. The DTS-HD 5.1 MA soundtrack is powerful, with deep bass and precise sound placement that brings the film’s action to life. Finally, The Lego Batman Movie offers a fun, animated take on the character, with Will Arnett as Batman and Zach Galifianakis as the Joker. The 4K version is vibrant and detailed, with excellent color and texture. The disc includes both Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks, offering a dynamic audio experience. Rounding out the list is Batman: The Animated Series, a classic series that has become a favorite among fans. With its beautiful animation and strong voice cast, it’s a must-watch for any Batman enthusiast. While it doesn't offer HDR, the series looks fantastic in HD, and the audio is clear and well-balanced.
