iPhone Duo deliveries delayed

Apple is facing delays in delivering its new iPhone Duo, with the first delivery slots for new orders now scheduled for January 2027. This delay comes despite the phone's recent launch and strong market interest.

Logistical challenges cited

During the presentation of its quarterly results, Apple's CEO mentioned that logistical problems are limiting the availability of foldable phones for purchase. These issues are affecting the company’s ability to meet demand for the new iPhone Duo.

Supply and demand uncertainty

In an interview with Reuters, John Ternus explained that the stocks of foldable phones "were subject to restrictions" and that it was currently "impossible to predict when supply and demand would be balanced." This highlights ongoing challenges in managing the product's availability.

Apple frames the issue as demand-driven

Apple is attempting to frame the discussion around the supposedly "unexpected" demand for the product rather than around its own supply difficulties. This narrative is being used to explain the delays to both the public and investors.

Production slowed by component shortages

Sabhi Kahn, Apple's operations director, reiterated the same wording to the company's shareholders, stating that "the ramp-up" is going well. However, Kahn admitted that the production rate of most Apple devices was slowed by the difficulty in obtaining processors with "sufficiently advanced components."

Rising costs and supply chain issues

Apple's CEO also noted that the cost of memory continued to increase "unprecedentedly," even though savings in other areas had allowed the company to balance things roughly. These rising costs are adding pressure to the supply chain and production process.

Cracked screen issue adds to challenges

The recent controversy surrounding the cracked screens of the iPhone Duo did not help, as Apple has committed to replacing the "small number" of affected devices. This issue adds to the logistical complications the company is facing.

Strong quarterly results reported

Despite these logistical complications, the company is still reporting higher quarterly results, with 57 billion in revenue from iPhone sales. This indicates that the challenges in supply and production have not yet impacted overall financial performance.
