Tours Métropole approves aid for affected businesses

Local authorities in Tours Métropole have approved a 100,000 euro aid package to support businesses that suffered from violence during demonstrations on October 17, 24, and 31. The aid aims to help merchants recover from damage and lost income caused by the protests.

Crisis cell established after demonstrations

Iman Manzari, the deputy mayor for commerce in Tours and a metropolitan council member, stated that a crisis cell was set up on October 19 to address the impact of the demonstrations. This group works to coordinate responses and support for affected businesses.

Businesses face both property damage and lost revenue

Manzari noted that while property damage is a concern, the loss of revenue is even more troubling for local merchants. This issue has been worsened by the recent cancellation of a curfew, which had previously limited the impact of protests on business hours.

Fifty-three businesses affected in Tours

According to Manzari, 53 businesses in Tours were either damaged or looted during the demonstrations. He expressed satisfaction with the adaptation of the façade fund, which now allows the 100,000 euros to be directly allocated for this aid.

Request to extend open Sundays for businesses

Manzari also requested that the Métropole consider extending open Sundays to help businesses recover lost revenue. The state currently allows three additional Sundays open through the end of the year to compensate for closures caused by protests. The request will be submitted to the Prefect, as stated by President Frédéric Augis.
