Elderly volunteers in Ukraine

A French television team recently met with Ukrainian volunteers who are over 60 years old and have retrained to defend their country. These individuals, many of whom had previously retired from civilian jobs, have taken up arms to support the military effort.

Training and adaptation

The volunteers undergo rigorous training to adapt to modern combat roles, often involving physical and mental challenges that test their endurance and resilience. Their transition from civilian life to military service is both demanding and transformative.

Personal sacrifices

For these volunteers, the decision to join the fight comes with significant personal sacrifices. Many have left behind family, homes, and the comfort of retirement to contribute to the defense of their nation.

Emotional toll

The emotional toll of their new roles is profound. Despite their commitment, the volunteers express feelings of loss and strain, highlighting the difficult choices they face in contributing to the war effort.
