Coventry Market has become the backdrop for a new CBeebies series called I Can Taste It, designed to help children aged three to six become more confident in exploring new foods using their senses—sight, smell, touch, sound, and taste. The show is hosted by presenter Aaron Roach Bridgeman and a puppet named Zesty, and it is being filmed in the market, which producers say provides a real-world setting that helps children connect with food in a natural, engaging way. Dom Sant, founder of Common Story, the production company behind the series, said the market's lively atmosphere, variety of vendors, and sense of community made it an ideal location for the show. Six-year-old Oscar from Bedworth is one of the children participating in the series. His mother, Hannah, said she applied after seeing an advertisement on social media. She noted that Oscar is enthusiastic about food and enjoys talking, which helped him stand out during the casting process. For Hannah, visiting the market brought back cherished memories—her parents used to take her there every Saturday when she was a child. She described the experience as nostalgic, saying it felt like she was back at four years old, holding her father’s hand. The production team described the filming process as "glorious chaos," with the show often adapting to children’s spontaneous reactions rather than sticking strictly to a script. Alongside Aaron and Zesty, the series features a character called the Compost Monster, designed to teach children about sustainable eating habits and reducing food waste. Market trader David Betts said the production has helped raise the profile of Coventry Market, one of the city’s most well-known landmarks. Clive Miller, a fishmonger whose stall is featured in the filming, said the show will help children discover new foods, such as different types of fish, and learn more about where food comes from. The series is set to air in spring 2027. Common Story, the company behind the show, started in a garden shed six years ago with a modest budget of £10,000. Since then, it has produced over 100 CBeebies programs, with an additional 30 currently in production. The company has grown significantly, reflecting the popularity of its educational and engaging content for young children.
