Giulio Pellizzari of the Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe team won the 98th edition of the Tour de Toscane on Wednesday. This race, held in Tuscany, Italy, is a prestigious one-day event that attracts top cyclists from around the world. The final challenge of the race came during the second and last climb of Monte Serra, an 8.4 km ascent with a 7.1% gradient, known for its difficulty and scenic views. During the climb, Lenny Martinez of Bahrain Victorious made an early move, trying to break away from the pack. His effort led to a group of ten riders reaching the summit before the main group, or peloton, could catch up. However, as the peloton remained at the front, Pellizzari saw an opportunity to make his own move. He launched an attack under the red flag, a signal used in cycling races to indicate the start of the final climb or sprint. Pellizzari’s attack gave him a slight lead, and he maintained it to the finish line in Pontedera. He was followed by Jordan Jegat of TotalEnergies and Christian Scaroni of XDS Astana Team. Lenny Martinez, despite his earlier breakaway, finished in fourth place. This victory marks Pellizzari as the first Italian to win the Tour de Toscane in seven years, highlighting his strong performance and the significance of his achievement in Italian cycling.
