Two months before the start of the biathlon World Cup, Quentin Fillon Maillet reflected on a summer that changed his life. Now thirty-four years old, the French biathlete still has a desire for victories and titles. He has been preparing for weeks for the new World Cup season, which will begin on November 26 at the Finnish track of Kontiolahti. In the meantime, he has become the father of a daughter named Léana, born on August 5. Naturally, this is a major change in his daily life. During a press meeting held on Thursday, the athlete who is about to begin his fourteenth season at the highest level discussed this parenthood that temporarily kept him away from the French team. "On the first training camps, I was present and my partner was pregnant. But I did not go to the August training camp because we had a daughter. It was planned that way. And then I wanted to spend two full months with my partner." As a result, his partner came with their daughter to the September training camp held in Corrençon-en-Vercors, in the Isère department. A presence that Quentin Fillon Maillet clearly appreciated. "It was great. Like the change of skis, this change of status is part of the new things that, I hope, will boost me." Indeed, in addition to his new family life, the Frenchman has decided to change ski brands. "It's a certain gamble. When you change glasses or gloves, there is a technical side, but it's quite minor. Skis, it's radical." Now, Quentin Fillon Maillet is waiting for the November training camp, which will allow him to really test his new equipment. "There will be a lot of work," he specified. Motivated, the biathlete admitted that last season left traces that he felt when he resumed training. "It was hard. Physically, I felt I had difficulty recovering. Now, it has returned. My motivation is back, even if I do not always optimize my recovery because I have to give the bottle at night."
