New film adaptation of Notre-Dame de Paris

A new film adaptation of Victor Hugo's Notre-Dame de Paris is set to premiere on Netflix starting November 27. Titled Quasimodo, the Soul of Paris, the film is directed by Jean-François Richet and offers a reinterpretation of the classic novel, focusing on the historical events leading up to the Revolution of the Three Glorious Days in 1830 in Paris, which was also affected by a cholera outbreak.

Director reunites with longtime collaborator

This film marks a reunion between director Jean-François Richet and his frequent collaborator Vincent Cassel. The two have previously worked together on several projects, including Mesrine (two parts), the remake of A Moment of Madness, and The Emperor of Paris. Their fifth collaboration is also the first to be released on Netflix.

Vincent Cassel portrays Quasimodo

Vincent Cassel portrays the character of Quasimodo in the film, a role that required extensive make-up to transform him into a deformed figure. This transformation has drawn comparisons to the 1980 film The Elephant Man, and the portrayal has been described as one of the most intense and horrifying versions of Quasimodo since Charles Laughton's performance in the 1939 film The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

Cast includes notable actors and a high budget

The film's cast includes Benjamin Voisin, who is set to play Johnny in a highly anticipated biopic, and Karim Leklou, previously seen in The Battle of Gaul. Other notable actors in the film are Daphné Patakia and Noémie Lvovsky. The production has a budget exceeding 30 million euros, indicating a significant investment in the film's production quality and scope.
