The constitutional amendment reduces the workweek to 40 hours without a reduction in salary and offers a large part of the Brazilian population two days of rest per week, currently one. The reform is considered an "important victory" for left-wing president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, eleven days before the second round of the presidential election.

Trump appeals court ruling on press access

The Trump administration appealed the decision of a federal judge who prevented President Donald Trump from banning access to the White House for journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico. The government requested the cancellation of a decision "protecting the press credentials of the White House for the three media outlets while their legal action continues," according to The Wrap. Judge Timothy Kelly found that the ban decided by Trump in mid-September was not motivated by threats to national security, as the White House claimed, but constituted a violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution, guaranteeing freedom of the press.
