A Chinese company called Jackery, known for making portable batteries, has introduced a new line of products developed in collaboration with the American Red Cross. The HomePower Emergency Pro Series consists of three energy storage units designed to automatically recharge in response to weather alerts. These batteries are currently only available in North America, though similar models are already sold in France under the name Explorer. They are intended for use by both professional emergency responders and everyday consumers.
The new line includes three models: the HomePower 1000 Plus v2, 2000 Plus v2, and 3600 Plus. According to Jackery, each unit now features a "Storm Alert" function that uses the OpenWeather API to monitor weather forecasts. When a potential storm or power outage is detected, the system automatically recharges the battery to full capacity, overriding any user-defined charging limits or schedules. The system also sends a notification when this automatic recharging begins. Another feature, "Emergency Reserve Mode," allows users to lock a portion of the battery's capacity—between 20% and 100%—via an app. This reserved energy is inaccessible daily and can only be unlocked through a specific feature, after which it automatically relocks.
The batteries can be recharged using solar panels, offering a continuous power supply if sunlight is available. The smallest model, the HomePower 1000 Plus v2, has a storage capacity of 1,024 watt-hours and can deliver 1,800 watts of AC power, weighing 10.8 kilograms. The 2000 Plus v2 offers double the capacity at 2,048 watt-hours, with 2,400 watts of power output and a weight of 18.8 kilograms. The largest model, the 3600 Plus, has a capacity of 3,584 watt-hours and delivers up to 3,600 watts of power, weighing 35 kilograms. It is also designed with wheels and a handle, making it easier to move like a trolley suitcase.
Jackery has pledged to donate 10% of the profits from the sale of this Red Cross-branded line to support rescue services. The company has also committed to providing these batteries free of charge to firefighters, emergency responders, and other frontline workers during critical situations. This partnership aims to enhance preparedness and response capabilities in areas affected by natural disasters or power outages.
