Foire froide returns to Sallanches

The Foire froide, a traditional fair with roots in the Middle Ages, returns to the commune of Sallanches in Haute-Savoie from Friday, October 23, to Sunday, October 25. This event blends local traditions with festive activities, offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s cultural heritage.

Opening event features local crafts and music

On Friday, the fair begins at Place Grenette, where vendors sell handmade items like crepes, bugnes, and bougnettes—traditional pastries from the region. The evening is enhanced by musical promenades featuring big band music, Alpine horns, and mountain songs.

Saturday brings diverse activities and exhibitions

Saturday’s events take place on Charles-Albert Place and Place de l’Ancienne Poste, with activities such as country sessions, knitting and leatherworking workshops, and chess games. At 6 p.m., an exhibition of vintage vehicles, including the Cheval Mécanique, is displayed near the church steps, alongside a wind orchestra concert in the Léon-Curral room.

Sunday highlights the Abondance breed contest and vintage cars

On Sunday, the focus is on the 53rd Abondance breed contest, where visitors can admire the most beautiful cows from the surrounding alpine pastures. The day also includes a vintage car exhibition featuring vehicles from former firefighters and military personnel, along with tasting sessions of tripe, a traditional dish of Haute-Savoie.
