Electric scooter goes on sale at lower price

Decathlon is selling the Btwin SD500E electric scooter for under 250 euros, a discount from its original price of 299.99 euros. The scooter is intended for short urban commutes, such as traveling to a train station, visiting a bakery, or going to work.

Scooter features and design

The Btwin SD500E includes a 350 W motor, 10-inch inflatable wheels, and a folding mechanism that allows it to fit in a car trunk or under a desk. It has a gray frame with electric blue wheels and includes a kickstand, front LED lighting, a rear stop light, and an IPX5 rating that makes it resistant to rain.

Battery range and performance

The scooter has a 208 Wh battery that can last up to 25 km in Eco mode, 18 km in Normal mode, and 15 km in Sport mode. These ranges are based on specific conditions: a rider weighing 65 kg, a temperature of 20 °C, flat terrain, and a speed of 15 km/h. Performance may drop in colder weather, on hills, or with a heavier load.

Braking and display features

The scooter uses a rear mechanical disc brake and a front motor brake for stopping. Its LCD screen shows essential information, but it lacks Bluetooth or app connectivity. This means users cannot track battery levels or other data through a smartphone.

Weight and comfort considerations

The Btwin SD500E weighs 16.2 kg, which is manageable for short trips but may be tiring to carry up stairs. The scooter does not have suspension, so riding on rough roads may cause discomfort in the legs.
