A TikTok video circulating online falsely claims to show a large protest in Kiev, Ukraine, demanding the removal of President Volodymyr Zelensky. In reality, the video has been manipulated and mislabeled. It originally depicted demonstrations on July 31, 2026, in Kiev, which were in support of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who had been dismissed by Zelensky in mid-July 2026. The protesters were calling for Fedorov’s reinstatement, not Zelensky’s removal. Fedorov, known for modernizing the Ukrainian military, had been a popular figure among some segments of the public. The TikTok account @aeiou_zerty posted the altered video with the caption: "The scale of the protest march in Kiev for the removal of Zelensky!" The video shows a large crowd marching on a wide avenue in Kiev, with a text banner reading: "The media will tell you nothing!" and a portrait of Zelensky. Below that, text encourages rebellion, stating: "When a government gives orders contrary to the interests of the nation, disobeying becomes a duty! [...] When will the people of France!" Similar manipulated versions of the video have appeared on other accounts, such as @bella.blue443, with German text claiming that "Thousands of Ukrainians are demonstrating in Kiev against the leader of the regime, Volodymyr Zelensky." The original video was posted on the Instagram profile of @dankihot and shows the protests that began in Kiev on July 16, 2026, following Fedorov’s dismissal. The author of the video confirmed to 20 Minutes that the footage was from July 31, 2026. These demonstrations, which continued through the end of the month, were in response to Zelensky’s decision to remove Fedorov. The Kyiv Independent and France Info have confirmed these facts. While some protesters also called for the removal of Chief Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi, Zelensky later dismissed him, but this did not indicate a broader movement against the president. Misinformation accounts such as @aeiou_zerty and others have reused authentic footage and altered it with misleading political messages. For example, the account @atla817 has over 30,000 likes on a similar video, while another account, [email protected], with over 5,000 likes, claims that "a massive popular revolution is breaking out in Ukraine against Volodymyr Zelensky." However, no major media outlet is currently reporting on any large-scale demonstrations in Ukraine calling for Zelensky’s removal.
