IKEA has introduced a new wireless driver for its integrated LED lighting systems, named Dubbelkisel. This driver connects to IKEA's Bilresa hub, allowing users to control their lights through a smart home ecosystem. The device is Matter-enabled, meaning it can work with a variety of smart home products from different manufacturers, not just IKEA's own. Previously, IKEA used the Trådfri driver, which allowed users to control their lights with a small remote using the Zigbee protocol. The new Dubbelkisel takes a different approach by connecting to IKEA's Dirigera hub instead of a remote. This change allows users to operate their lights using IKEA's smart switches or even devices from other brands, as long as they support the Matter standard. The Dubbelkisel was first spotted earlier this year in a database of Thread devices, but it's now officially available for purchase. Some early users on Reddit have tested the device and reported that it works well, though some prefer the older Trådfri model. One user on the r/tradfri forum noted that while the Dubbelkisel functions without issues, there is a noticeable delay when turning on the lights due to its connection through a gateway. In contrast, the Trådfri driver connected directly to the remote for instant control. Currently, the Dubbelkisel is available in several European countries and is expected to be released more widely in the coming weeks. The driver is priced at around €18, which is approximately $20, £15, or AU$30.
