Support measures for affected businesses

After the damages on October 17 and 18, the State and Bpifrance have introduced several supports for businesses on La Réunion. These include zero-interest loans, tax deferrals, and insurance procedures to help affected companies recover and maintain employment.

Zero-interest loans for recovery

A zero-interest loan of 5,000 to 50,000 euros is available to businesses meeting specific conditions set by Bpifrance. The State services convened representatives of businesses, banks, and insurers on October 23 at the prefecture in Saint-Denis to discuss the situation and list affected businesses.

Part-time activity and social contribution deferrals

Businesses forced to reduce or suspend their activity can apply for an exceptional part-time activity scheme. Under this scheme, affected employees receive 60% of their gross salary, with 100% coverage for those earning the minimum wage. Social contributions for the next three months can also be deferred for up to twelve months.

Tax deferrals and expedited repayments

Directly affected merchants can request extended deadlines for tax submissions and payments, with no fees or surcharges. The tax administration plans to expedite certain tax claim repayments for affected companies. Each case must be reviewed individually with the tax management service.

Loan for replenishing stocks

The Commerce Solidarity Loan, announced by Bpifrance on October 23, offers additional funding. Loans range from 5,000 to 50,000 euros at zero interest, with a 36-month repayment period including a 12-month deferral. The loan is available to individual businesses and SMEs in commerce with damaged premises that have been operating for over a year.

Insurance procedures and contacts

Insured businesses should start their claims procedures promptly. France Assureurs has extended the claim deadline to 30 days and is handling sensitive cases faster. Businesses with fewer than 50 employees can contact specific regional officials, while larger companies can reach out to other designated contacts. The CCI Réunion has also set up an assistance cell to guide businesses through the recovery process.
