All 106 Beefeater restaurants across the UK are set to close today, following the recent closure of 89 Brewers Fayre locations. This move is part of a larger strategy by Whitbread, the parent company of Premier Inn, to shut down its standalone restaurant chains and instead focus on an "integrated food and beverage offer" that aligns with the needs of hotel guests. This shift aims to increase profitability by offering more high-margin services, such as extended stays or additional amenities. In total, 261 Whitbread-owned restaurants and pubs are closing across the UK this month. The list of Beefeater restaurants closing today includes a wide range of locations, from The Anchor in Lincolnshire to The Foxburrow in Suffolk and The Woolpack in Kent. These closures are spread across England, Wales, and Scotland, with many of the restaurants located in towns and cities across the country. Each of these locations has been a part of the Beefeater brand, known for its traditional pub-style dining, but will now cease operations as part of Whitbread’s restructuring. Similarly, the Brewers Fayre closures span multiple regions, with locations such as Abergavenny in Wales, Barry Island in South Wales, and Exeter in Devon among those affected. These closures reflect a broader trend in the UK, where many high street businesses, including restaurants and shops, are struggling due to changing consumer habits and economic pressures. Whitbread's chief executive, Dominic Paul, explained that the closures are part of a strategic plan to align the company's food and beverage services with the preferences of hotel guests. By focusing on integrated services, Whitbread aims to create more profitable opportunities, such as offering extended stays or additional amenities. The closures come amid a growing trend of shop and chain closures across the UK high street, as businesses adapt to evolving consumer demands and economic conditions.
