New initiative for young screenwriters

The "Séquences Femmes" initiative, supported by the association Femmes & Cinéma, is launching its 2026-2027 edition with a screenplay competition aimed at high school students across France, including overseas territories. The project, backed by the Ministry of National Education and France Télévisions, seeks to give young people a voice through audiovisual creation to question gender inequalities and discrimination.

Screenplay themes and submission deadline

Students are invited to write fictional screenplays of five to ten pages during school time, addressing themes such as beauty standards, domestic violence, and intersectionality after the attack. These screenplays must be submitted by December 19, 2026.

Selection and production process

A jury of cinema professionals will select between five to eight winning projects. Selected classes will then produce short films from January to June 2027, with the support of a director and film crew, using professional equipment.

Broadcast and educational impact

The films produced will be broadcast on France 3 starting in November 2027 as part of the "Libre Court" program and will also be available for replay and screening in classrooms across France. The initiative has already produced over 41 films in its first eight years, with the ninth edition celebrated in September 2025.

Encouraging student participation

Educational teams are encouraged to support students in writing their screenplays, with the first deadline for submissions set for December 19, 2026.
