Clermont has officially extended the contract of Alivereti Loaloa until June 2029. The 25-year-old Fijian center joined the club from Nevers during the summer of 2025 and has now added two more seasons to his deal. Despite suffering an injury upon his arrival, Loaloa quickly established himself in the team under coach Christophe Urios. He concluded last season with 17 consecutive starting appearances and is set to make his fourth consecutive start this Saturday against Castres. Christophe Urios views the contract extension as a natural step in Loaloa's development. The coach highlighted his effectiveness in physical confrontations and his growing offensive skills, stating via the club's official website that Loaloa is still young and has significant room for improvement. At Clermont, Loaloa is now seen as one of the players who will be key to the club's long-term plans. Loaloa's versatility has played a major role in his success. He did not always play in the backline, having previously played as a flanker and also spent time at the number seven position during his time at Nevers. This experience is still evident in his game. The LNR, the governing body of French rugby, listed him as the best ruck player in Pro D2 during the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons, a rare skill for a center. Clermont did not only recruit a center who can contribute in the ruck. Loaloa played 21 matches across all competitions in the 2025-2026 season, scoring two tries. This season, he has already made three Top 14 appearances and scored a try against Castres. His skills are evolving, particularly in his ability to play after contact or behind the defensive line. This extension brings stability to a position where Clermont has a variety of player profiles. Loaloa can add physicality, defend effectively on the flanks, and transform a stalled ball into a scoring opportunity through his ground activity. Securing a 25-year-old player who is already integrated into the team's system also prevents the need to revisit this position soon. Timing has also been crucial. Following the recent extension of Anthime Hemery, Clermont continues to secure players expected to be central to the club's future. For Loaloa, the next step is to prove he can be more than just a standout Pro D2 acquisition: a center who is now considered a key reference for Clermont. A year ago, Loaloa arrived with the label of a player to be tested at a higher level. With 17 consecutive starts under his belt, Clermont has now committed to him for two more years, showing that the move from Nevers to Clermont has been a particularly well-negotiated deal.
