Dog found in drainage channel

Kristen, president of the Cowtown Friends association, received a message about a thin dog seen in a wastewater drainage channel. The dog appeared severely underweight in the video images sent to her.

Rescuers intervene

Rescuers quickly arrived at the location and found the dog stuck in thick mud at the bottom of the channel. The dog was unable to climb out on its own and required time and patience to be safely removed and transported to a shelter.

Heavy rains threaten the dog

Two days after the rescue, heavy rains caused flooding in the channel. If the dog had not been removed in time, it likely would not have survived the rising water and mud.

Microchip identifies the dog

At the shelter, rescuers checked the dog for a microchip, a small electronic device implanted under the skin. The microchip identified the dog as Sadie, whose owner had been searching for her for two and a half months.

Sadie reunites with owner

Sadie had escaped from her home while her owner was away. The owner had been searching for her extensively. The shelter filmed their reunion, showing Sadie approach her owner slowly, then wagging her tail more and more as she recognized him.
