Commemorative plaque unveiled for Anis

A commemorative plaque was unveiled in Poitiers, France, to honor Anis, a 15-year-old boy who was killed during a shooting in the Couronneries neighborhood on October 31, 2024. The event took place on Coimbra Square, the location of the incident, where about 100 people gathered in memory of the teenager.

Event attended by local officials

The gathering was attended by Poitiers Mayor Anthony Brottier and other local figures. The plaque, installed by the city, carries the message "For Anis, For life. So that this never happens again," as reported by the regional newspaper La Nouvelle République.

Suspect in provisional detention

The main suspect in Anis's killing has been in provisional detention since November 7, 2024. A woman is also under judicial supervision, and authorities say the investigation is expected to take about a year before a trial can proceed.

Shooting linked to drug trafficking

The incident is believed to be connected to drug trafficking in the Couronneries neighborhood. The suspect, known to police, allegedly fired randomly at residents, including Anis, who was leaving a restaurant at the time of the shooting.

Mother calls for end to targeting children

Anis’s mother expressed her grief and called on those involved in drug trafficking to stop targeting innocent children. She also chose not to file a complaint against Bruno Retailleau, the former Minister of the Interior, who had suggested Anis may have been involved in drug trafficking, following her lawyer’s advice.
