A 2021 bioethics law lets adults born via donor-assisted procreation access donor identities and personal details through a dedicated commission.
New law enables access to donor information
A bioethics law enacted in 2021 gives individuals born from sperm, egg, or embryo donations the right to seek information about their origins. This law was designed to provide clarity and personal information to those conceived through assisted reproductive technologies.Adults can request donor details
Since 2022, adults born through medically assisted procreation (AMP) using a third-party donor can contact the Commission for Access by Persons Born from Medically Assisted Procreation to Data on Third-Party Donors (CAPADD) to request access to the donor's identity. This includes the donor's first and last name, gender, date and place of birth.Information includes identifying and non-identifying data
The information available through CAPADD includes both identifying and non-identifying data about the donor. Identifying data consists of the donor's name, gender, and birth details, while non-identifying data includes age and family status. The process aims to provide clarity and closure
The process of requesting donor information is intended to provide individuals with a sense of identity and closure. It allows them to learn more about their biological origins, which can be important for personal, medical, or familial reasons.
