A former Bethesda developer, Bruce Nesmith, has proposed that The Elder Scrolls 6 could include boats and naval combat as part of its gameplay. Nesmith, who previously worked on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, believes that such features would allow the game to give vehicles a more prominent role than they have had in previous titles. While earlier games in the series, like Skyrim, have included transportation options such as carriages, these have not been central to the core gameplay experience. Nesmith suggested that setting The Elder Scrolls 6 in the Bay of Illyria would provide an opportunity to focus on navigation and exploration by water. He proposed the inclusion of unique elements such as new creatures, spells, and skill trees that relate to water-based activities. For example, he suggested that players might be able to walk on water or interact with boats that serve purposes beyond simple transportation. He also mentioned the possibility of including mythical beings like krakens and sea elves in the game world. While Nesmith acknowledged the potential for underwater gameplay, he emphasized that he would prefer to focus on surface-level elements rather than trying to incorporate both underwater and surface features at the same time. He believes it is important for the development team to perfect one aspect of the game rather than stretching resources too thin across multiple areas. Nesmith is not currently working on The Elder Scrolls 6, but his ideas offer insight into possible directions the game might take. As the next installment in the Elder Scrolls series, The Elder Scrolls 6 remains a highly anticipated project, and its final design is still unknown. Bethesda has not officially confirmed any details about the game's setting, features, or release date.
