Several days after being made available in the Release Preview channel, Windows 11 26H2 has reached another key development. Microsoft is now offering ISO images of the upcoming annual update to users who are part of the Windows Insider program. This follows earlier warnings from the company that the ISOs would be available soon. On August 31, Microsoft updated its blog post to announce the availability of the first ISO images for Windows 11 26H2. These ISOs are digital files that allow users to install the operating system from scratch or create a bootable USB drive, without waiting for an automatic update through Windows Update. The ISO images are currently accessible through the Windows Insider download page and correspond to build 26300.9278, which has been available in the Release Preview channel for several days. Accessing these ISOs requires a Microsoft account and participation in the Windows Insider program. Once downloaded, users can use the ISOs to upgrade their computers, perform a full reinstallation of Windows 11, or prepare a USB stick to install the system on another machine. As of now, there is no official announcement about a public release of Windows 11 26H2. The update is expected to launch later this year. For users on Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2, the transition to 26H2 will involve a small activation package (eKB), as these versions share the same maintenance branch. However, this will not apply to devices running Windows 11 26H1, which belongs to a different branch and will not be able to upgrade to 26H2 directly. Microsoft typically releases major updates annually, and Windows 11 26H2 is expected to bring new features and improvements. However, the exact timeline for its public release remains unclear. Users not participating in the Windows Insider program will have to wait for the official launch, which is anticipated later this year.
