Spain's national football team coach Luis de la Fuente recently announced the squad for the upcoming Nations League campaign in Ceuta, a small Spanish territory located in northern Africa. Ceuta is currently facing a severe migration crisis, with large numbers of people crossing from Morocco. The announcement was made in a video featuring local residents of Ceuta, though de la Fuente did not directly comment on the recent migration events. Instead, he emphasized the connection between Ceuta and Spain, saying, "This is Ceuta, this is Spain," highlighting a growing call for more recognition and support for the territory. The selected squad includes players from various clubs across Spain. Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martínez replaces Barcelona’s Joan García, who is sidelined with a minor knee injury. Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen takes over from Marcos Llorente, who has retired from international play. Fermín López is called up in place of Barcelona midfielder Gavi, while Espanyol forward Roberto Fernández makes his debut with the national team, replacing Borja Iglesias. Spain's Nations League campaign will kick off on 26 September with a match against England at Wembley Stadium. This will be the first time players wear two stars on their jerseys, symbolizing Spain’s second World Cup victory. Following the match in London, Spain will host Croatia on 29 September and the Czech Republic on 3 October. The team will then travel to face Croatia again on 6 October. Ceuta is one of two Spanish territories located on the north African coast, the other being Melilla. Both have been under Spanish control since the 16th century. Ceuta has a population of just over 80,000 people, but in late July, more than 70,000 individuals crossed the border from Morocco, leading to a chaotic situation in which over 100 people lost their lives. While most of those who crossed have since returned to Morocco, a few thousand remain in Ceuta.
