The French national railway company, SNCF, has announced the opening of a special ticket office for the end-of-year holidays, providing more travel options for those heading to the Christmas markets in the East of France and the Alpine region. Train tickets for these holidays will be available for sale starting on Wednesday, as confirmed by the SNCF in a statement released on Monday, September 28. The company plans to increase the number of available seats heading east, particularly to the Christmas markets in Strasbourg and Colmar, and will also deploy extra trains to the Alps.
The ticket office for the end-of-year holidays opens on Wednesday, September 30 for the TGV Inoui, Ouigo, and Intercités services. The SNCF will offer 36,000 additional seats per week for a month on the TGV Inoui to travel to the Christmas markets in Strasbourg and Colmar. These extra seats will be available from Thursday, November 26, to Wednesday, December 23. Specifically, there will be 25,000 additional seats per week between Paris and Strasbourg, which includes 10 additional trains extended to Colmar. Additionally, 11,000 extra seats per week will be available from cities such as Nantes, Rennes, Bordeaux, Marseille, Montpellier, and Lyon to Strasbourg without the need for a transfer. This offer will be available every day of the week, with a greater increase on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
During the Christmas holidays, the TGV Inoui will provide more than 300,000 seats to the Alps, according to the SNCF, to meet the high demand for travelers heading to mountain resorts. Six additional TGV trains will also operate between Paris Gare de Lyon and Bourg-Saint-Maurice on weekends, starting from November 27 and continuing through the end-of-year holiday period. The SNCF will also enhance its services on certain Ouigo Grande Vitesse lines during this time, especially towards the East of France.
Starting on December 13, there will be a third round trip on the Paris-Strasbourg link, with the new service stopping at the Champagne-Ardenne TGV and Nancy stations. Additionally, Ouigo Grande Vitesse will introduce a third round trip between Paris and Lyon from Friday to Monday, and a fourth Ouigo Train class round trip between Paris and Brussels. From Wednesday, it will also be possible to book tickets for European destinations such as Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. The SNCF has also expanded its offer to Germany with a sixth daily round trip on the Paris-Stuttgart line and an additional round trip on weekends between Paris and Munich.
