Star-Lord's return confirmed

Chris Pratt has confirmed that Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor made the announcement while promoting the second season of The Terminal List, which was released on Prime Video on October 21, 2026.

Details on the return

Pratt revealed that Marvel Studios is actively working on bringing the character back, though no specific release dates have been announced. He spoke to the podcast The Bingeworthy from The Playlist, with the interview reported by Variety on the same day.

Marvel's plans

Kevin Feige and Lou D'Esposito, key figures at Marvel Studios, are involved in planning Star-Lord's return. Pratt stated that there are both ongoing discussions and concrete steps already being taken to fulfill the promise of his return.

Star-Lord's current status

After James Gunn left Marvel to direct for DC Comics, Star-Lord retired to Earth to live a peaceful life with his grandfather. However, with the multiverse and the arrival of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, this retirement is expected to be short-lived.

Future Marvel projects

Marvel is reportedly working on Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, both of which could bring Star-Lord back into the fold. The directors of Infinity War and Endgame, Joe and Anthony Russo, have suggested not all cast members for Avengers: Doomsday have been revealed yet.

New project for Star-Lord

Screenwriter Michael Waldron is working on Nova, a project centered on Richard Rider. This could provide a reason to bring Star-Lord back into the story, possibly as a mentor or to help the intergalactic police force of Xandar.
