Demonstration turns violent

Several thousand people participated in the demonstration before violence occurred at the end of the route. The unrest escalated, leading to damage and fires in the area.

Fire breaks out at historic town hall

A fire is ongoing at the town hall in Limoges, with firefighters attempting to prevent the flames from spreading throughout the building, a historic structure inaugurated in 1883 and with an architecture inspired by the town hall in Paris.

Fire spreads to roof and beams

The fire, which spread along one wing of the building, reached the roof, whose beams are at risk of collapsing, according to an AFP correspondent. Around 8:00 PM, firefighters were fighting the flames.

Emotional scene at the scene

A municipal employee was crying in the arms of an elected official, while hundreds of people watched the fire from a distance, distressed. The emotional impact of the event was evident as the community gathered to witness the destruction.

Attack precedes the fire

The fire at the town hall followed an attack by a group of individuals on the building during violence that occurred at the end of Saturday's demonstration. After burning a municipal police car in front of the town hall, masked individuals broke windows to enter inside and set fire.

Widespread violence reported

Violence also occurred near a highway interchange in the area, where vandals set fire to a national police car, according to the newspaper Le Populaire du Centre, while shops were looted in the city center. There were also confrontations with law enforcement near the Haute-Vienne prefecture, with the throwing of projectiles, mortar fire, and tear gas grenades.
