A role-playing game titled The One Ring has achieved remarkable success from the launch of its crowdfunding campaign. Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings series, the game is published by Free League and is making a return as a tabletop role-playing game set in the same universe. This new edition is based on a previous version of the game that was well-received in the gaming community and even won awards for its design and storytelling. The crowdfunding campaign, which initially aimed to raise $50,000 on the Backerkit platform, surpassed its goal within minutes of launching. Within a few hours, the campaign had already reached $500,000. The amount continued to grow rapidly, surpassing $2 million in just a few days. As of the latest update, more than 9,000 people had contributed to the campaign, bringing the total to $2,171,824, with 20 days still remaining in the fundraising period. The funds raised will support the publication of three new live sessions for The One Ring. These sessions will include a reorganization of the game's rules, new game elements, and even a solo mode that allows players to experience the game individually. Contributors to the campaign will receive various rewards, such as pre-orders of The One Ring books, cardboard figures for battle scenarios, exclusive dice sets inspired by the kingdom of Gondor, a special map of Gondor and Rohan, and other new items. The new edition of The One Ring is expected to be released in October 2027, according to Free League Publishing. This release marks a significant milestone for fans of The Lord of the Rings and tabletop gaming, as it brings a beloved game back with updated features and expanded content.
