The South Region has announced the 2026-2027 selection for the South Region Literary Prize for High School Students and Apprentices. This annual award highlights contemporary literature and graphic novels, offering young readers and apprentices the chance to engage with new works. The selection includes a total of 10 titles—five novels and five graphic novels—chosen by librarians, booksellers, and teachers from the Regional Book Agency Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. These works will be evaluated by 26 high schools, apprentice training centers, and two prisons, with the final winner determined by their votes. Among the shortlisted novels are 11H02, the wind rises by Sacha Bertrand (Paulsen), Building Babinski by Louise Mottier (Hors d’atteinte), The Mango and the Butterfly by Anne-Christine Tinel (Elyzad), Four Days Without My Mother by Ramsès Kefi (Philippe Rey), and Three Times the Anger by Laurine Roux (Le Sonneur). The graphic novels include Babouchka and Dedouchka by Emma Siniavski (Sarbacane), Strawberry Ladies, Fairy Fingers by Annelise Verdier (Alifbata), Downlands by Norm Konyu (Glénat)—translated from English by Patrice Louinet—The Fish, They Do Not Cry... by Laurent Galandon and Jean-Denis Pendanx (Maghen), and Garage Road by Sophie Adriansen and Arnaud Nebbache (Dargaud). These works are intended to inspire young readers and encourage them to explore the world of literature and art. The prize, initiated by the South Region and developed by the Regional Book Agency, aims to connect young people with the literary world. Each year, it introduces 10 contemporary works in the categories of novel and graphic novel. The event also provides opportunities for participants to meet authors and learn about the creative process behind book production. In addition, it encourages creativity through writing competitions and artistic workshops. Last year, the prize honored Ilaria by Gabriella Zalapi, published by Zoé editions, and Carcajou by Eldiablo and Djilian Deroche, published by Sarbacane editions. These selections reflect the diversity and quality of literature available to young readers in the region. The 2026-2027 selection will be judged by over 1000 participants, ensuring a broad and inclusive evaluation process.
