Denmark buys long-range missiles

The Danish government has confirmed it has purchased long-range missiles from Norwegian and American manufacturers, one year after announcing its intention to acquire precision long-range weapons in response to the Russian threat.

Missile systems from Kongsberg and Covenant

Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus detailed during a press conference that Denmark has purchased two different missile systems: Norwegian strike missiles from Kongsberg, which can be launched from Danish F-35 fighter jets, and Anthem missiles from the American company Covenant, which can be fired from the ground.

Details not disclosed

Bruus refused to specify the number of missiles or the amount committed, and the delivery date of the missiles has not been made public.

Russian threat justifies acquisition

The Danish government justified the future acquisition by emphasizing that the Russian threat would continue to weigh on Europe. "We are in a political security situation where no one can predict what will happen tomorrow," Bruus emphasized during the press conference.

NATO deterrence and maritime agreement

This situation compels Denmark to have this new military capability to strengthen its own deterrence force as well as the collective deterrence force of NATO, he added. This announcement comes on the same day as the signing of an agreement with the United States aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of naval construction.
