Aalborg Handball Club has signed Elias Skipagøtu, a top half-back from the German Bundesliga, who will leave his current club, THW Kiel, in the summer of 2027. The 24-year-old Faroese player has signed a four-year contract with Aalborg, who are the reigning Danish champions. Skipagøtu will replace Juri Knorr, who has committed to joining Paris Saint-Germain Handball. Skipagøtu joined THW Kiel in 2023, moving from Sävehof in Sweden. Although discussions had begun with the German club about extending his contract, Skipagøtu ultimately decided to move to Aalborg. He cited the club's status as the largest and best-managed in the Nordic region, along with its ambitions to win the Champions League, as key reasons for his decision. Named the best young player in the world by the International Handball Federation (IHF) in 2024, Skipagøtu had a standout 2025-2026 season, scoring 150 goals in 22 Bundesliga matches. His performance earned him the title of top scorer for THW Kiel and a place in the Bundesliga team of the season. This move marks a significant step in Skipagøtu’s career, as he joins one of the most successful clubs in the region. His arrival is expected to strengthen Aalborg's lineup as they aim for continued success in both domestic and European competitions.
