Tahiti, October 3, 2026 – The RSMA of Polynesia opened its doors to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Arue Broche barracks, welcoming nearly 800 visitors during its open house day. A group of about twenty young people from Faa’a, accompanied by agents from the Direction des solidarités de la famille et de l’égalité (DSFE), attended the event in hopes of finding a suitable match for their training. The event was described as "very important in the regiment's calendar," providing an opportunity for people to discover the training programs and exchange with officers and volunteers. Colonel Guillaume Nicloux, head of the RSMA-Pf, stated that the event allows people to "easily access the regiment and to present a little of what we have in terms of training capabilities." The RSMA offers 34 training tracks this year in a variety of fields such as hospitality and plumbing. The regiment also allows certain volunteers to discover the professional world and gain initial experience. The RSMA's commitment is to facilitate the social integration of young volunteers aged 18 to 25 by offering them adapted military, civic, academic, and professional training. Before the training in a profession, the young people "begin with an initial military training sequence where they learn the basics of military life," says the head of the corps. Punctuality, respect for hierarchy, and teamwork are some of the skills these young people must assimilate. Then they can enter their professional training to learn a trade in practice. Internships in companies allow them to discover the realities of the field before entering professional life. The young people thus trained have an insertion rate approaching 90 percent, with nearly 60 percent in permanent or fixed-term contracts of more than six months. A project was set up in partnership with the commune, which provided them with a bus to allow the young people from Faa’a to travel to Arue. Hinevai hopes that this experience will help them. The training offer at the RSMA generally adapts to the needs of the labor market, which explains the high insertion rate of volunteers. In view of the upcoming Pacific Games, a training program for prevention and security agents is to be set up to "ensure the security of this event," says the colonel. A heavy-duty training program is also expected to open very soon. Trainee volunteers are recruited based on application. The overall capacity of the RSMA-Pf is about 800 volunteers each year, distributed across its four sites, in Tahiti, Hao, Hiva Oa, and Tubuai.
