French shoppers get Yuka scores online

Consumers in France can now see the Yuka score directly on the websites and apps of major retailers while shopping online. This feature appears when a product is viewed or added to a shopping basket, helping shoppers make more informed decisions about their purchases.

Yuka score evaluates products using three criteria

The Yuka score assesses food products based on nutritional quality, presence of additives, and organic character. Nutritional quality accounts for 60% of the score, calculated using the Nutri-Score method. Additives make up 30%, and organic certification adds 10% as a bonus.

Yuka provides scores freely but with conditions

Yuka offers its scores to retailers at no cost, but with the requirement that all product references must be displayed, including those with the lowest scores. Retailers cannot filter or select which products are shown, ensuring transparency for consumers.

Yuka co-founder highlights online shopping growth

Julie Chapon, co-founder of Yuka, said that one-third of French people now shop online. She views the direct display of Yuka scores on online products as a significant step toward helping consumers make better-informed choices and hopes other retailers will adopt the feature soon.
