Inrap, a French archaeological research organization, is participating in the 2026 Science Festival in Pays de la Loire. The festival, themed Saveurs savantes, explores the connections between science, cuisine, taste, and food. In Rezé, the exhibition Maternités - Archaeology of the Maternal Figure is being hosted at Le Chronographe. The exhibition includes encounters and mediation sessions aimed at engaging the public with archaeological findings. Valérie Delattre, an anthropologist and scientific curator at Inrap, will give a flash presentation on funeral aspects, including tombs at Aulnat and Place Marengo in Anglers. Other specialists will be present at the exhibition on Sunday, October 4. On Saturday, October 3, three presentations will be held in the afternoon, each lasting 15 to 20 minutes. A palynology workshop, which involves the study of pollen, will be led by Delphine Barbier-Pain, a palynologist at Inrap. These workshops are accessible to children aged 7 and older, with a maximum of 10 participants per session. Registration is required on-site. The workshops will take place at 2:30 pm, 3:45 pm, and 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 3, and at 2:30 pm and 3:45 pm on Sunday, October 4. Each session will last 45 minutes. On Tuesday, October 6, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, Valérie Delattre will give a conference titled Mothers and early childhood: archaeological reading of an enduring unthought within the framework of the exhibition Maternités: archaeology of the maternal figure and as part of the Science Festival. The conference will be held in the auditorium of the AFTIS Pays de la Loire. The event is free and open to both adolescents and adults. In Sarthe, at Asnières-sur-Vègre, the Manoir de la Cour will host a conference titled The Priory of Brûlon through an archaeological survey campaign. Alain Valais, an archaeologist at Inrap, participated in an archaeological intervention at the Priory of Brûlon in 2024. This research traced the origins of the city back to the Gallo-Roman period and uncovered remains of a priory residence built in the 14th century. The conference will take place on Saturday, October 10, at 5:00 pm. Admission is 4€ for the general public, with free entry for those under 18. Reservations are required at lemanoirdelacour.fr.
