Jacques Decourt high school, located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, was recently involved in a student-led blockade. Among the students was C. A. L'essentiel Elwan, who gained attention after responding to a far-right YouTuber named Vincent Lapierre. Elwan's calm and confident answers during the encounter went viral, making him a minor celebrity on social media. His comments were widely shared, leading to millions of views and sparking discussions about student activism and political engagement. Elwan, a student at Jacques Decourt, which serves students from middle school through preparatory classes, became a public figure after his interaction with Lapierre. The school, which has 1,700 students, received support during the blockade from Aymeric Caron, a deputy for the Left (LFI) party. Caron's involvement highlighted the political dimension of the student protest and the growing influence of young voices in public discourse. On Tuesday, Elwan had a notable moment when he met Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a prominent French politician and leader of the LFI party, during the October 6th demonstration in Paris. Mélenchon shared a photo of their meeting with the caption, "Meeting of people's tribunes!" Later that week, Elwan was invited to appear on the evening show of David Pujadas, a well-known French journalist. This invitation underscored the increasing visibility of Elwan in political and media circles. In various videos, Elwan has criticized the current government, calling for the departure of President Emmanuel Macron and ministers such as Damien Lecornu and Bruno Geffray. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the education system and the Parcoursup platform, which is used for university admissions in France. When asked about his sudden notoriety, Elwan admitted to enjoying the attention and described himself as "a white person with a considerable cultural capital." He also encouraged the media to seek out voices from the suburbs, stating that "they are the ones who have the most to say."
