French Tech faces funding cuts, but an amendment seeks to restore support with 10 million euros added to its 2027 budget.
Amendment boosts French Tech funding
Paul Midy, a deputy from Essonne and part of the Ensemble pour la République group, proposed an amendment to the 2027 finance bill to increase funding for French Tech. The amendment adds 10 million euros to the existing 1.8 million euro budget, raising the total to 11.8 million euros for 2027.French Tech network structure
The French Tech network consists of labeled structures with different levels of resources and organization. The 2026–2028 labeling includes 19 Capitals and 28 Communities in France, as well as 78 Communities abroad. Some of these structures are partially funded by the private sector through membership fees and subsidies.Funding decline and amendment goals
French Tech funding has seen a significant drop, decreasing from 11.5 million euros in 2025 to 1.8 million euros in 2027. Midy’s amendment aims to restore this funding, which has fallen by about 84% in two years. The French Tech Mission coordinates programs and connects with government agencies, while Capitals and Communities support entrepreneurs locally and internationally.Other funding proposals
Other political groups have also proposed amendments to increase French Tech funding. The Socialists and Affiliated group, through an amendment by Laurent Lhardit, proposed adding 5 million euros. Similar proposals were made by Pierre Pribetich and Laurent Croizier, though the latter's amendment was not supported on October 28.Uncertainty in the budget process
The adoption of Midy’s amendment in the committee does not ensure its inclusion in the final 2027 budget. The process involves several steps, including a vote in the Assembly on November 17 and the parliamentary deadline expiring on December 17. Negotiations between chambers and government decisions may affect the final amount.Funding availability and program impact
The allocated funds and actual expenses may not align. The availability of funds, agreements with beneficiaries, and budgetary regulations will determine how much can be used in 2027. The true impact of the amendment will depend on the continuity of funded programs, not just the amount approved at the time of the vote. The coming weeks will be crucial for the future of a program central to the startup ecosystem promoted by Emmanuel Macron.
