A performance titled Khalil Khalil, created by Khalil Albatran and Bilal Alkhatib, explores themes of identity, heritage, and individual freedom. The piece is based on the life of Khalil Albatran, a Palestinian artist born in 1993 in Idhna, south of Hebron. Named after his brother, a martyr of the first Palestinian Intifada, Albatran grapples with the weight of his name, which carries history, grief, and collective expectations. His brother, whom he never met, is represented through family archives, stories, and a recorded voice rediscovered during Albatran's journey. The discovery of his own name engraved on a tomb acts as a foundational shock, triggering a deep questioning of identity and individual freedom. Through theater, music, and dance, Albatran transforms the stage into a space of confrontation between past and present. The performance weaves together voices from the past and gestures from today to question transmission, resistance, and the right to chart one's own path. This blend of performance styles allows the audience to experience the emotional and cultural layers of Albatran's journey, highlighting the tension between personal identity and collective memory. Khalil Khalil features Albatran as the performer, with direction by Albatran and Alkhatib. Isam Rishmawi provides lighting and sound, while Nathalie Asmari serves as stage manager. Ahmed Tobasi is the artistic advisor, and Ilaria Depari handles promotion and communication. The production is a collaboration between Sawa Sawa Program – Institut de France, Les Subs Lyon, Al Mawred (Beirut), Mishkal Grants, British Council, and Goethe Institut. These partnerships reflect the international scope and support for the project. The performance was scheduled for 1st and 2nd October 2026 at Les Subs in Lyon.
