Katie Taylor, one of Ireland's most celebrated boxers, will take on Flora Pili in a world title fight at Croke Park in Dublin. This event is expected to draw around 80,000 spectators, making it one of the largest boxing events in Irish history. The fight marks Taylor’s 27th and final professional bout, as she aims to become a three-time undisputed world champion. She will defend her light-welterweight titles from the WBO, WBA, and IBF organizations, while also competing for the vacant WBC title. Pili, her opponent, has an undefeated record of 12-0, making this a high-stakes match for Taylor. The referee for the event will be David Irving, a Belfast native with over 30 years of experience in boxing officiating. Irving, who once boxed for Holy Trinity in west Belfast, has refereed in numerous international matches and considers this fight one of the most significant of his career. He described the opportunity to officiate in his home country as a long-held ambition, and said it is an “amazing honour” to be recognized as an A-star referee and trusted with such a historic event. Irving has been preparing thoroughly for the fight, ensuring that all his equipment—uniform, pens, scorecard, towel, and water—is in perfect condition. He emphasized the importance of staying hydrated, as the bout could go the full 10 rounds. He also stressed the need to be physically and mentally prepared for any unexpected developments during the match, drawing on his extensive experience in the sport. Katie Taylor is widely regarded as an icon in Irish sports, both inside and outside the ring. Irving described her as a “household name” and an ambassador for boxing in Ireland. He expressed excitement about being part of such a historic event and assured that he would be fully prepared for any scenario, relying on his experience and confidence to ensure the fight is conducted smoothly.
