The **Large Type Book Readers' Prize** has announced the second edition of its award, which celebrates books designed for visually impaired readers. This year, 14 books from eight different publishers are in the running. The voting process will take place in two online rounds, with the winner to be revealed on January 21, 2027. The prize is organized by the Association Les Amis des Grands Caractères in partnership with the Librairie des Grands Caractères, a bookstore dedicated to accessible publishing. Among the shortlisted titles are Un jour sans femme by Laetitia Colombani, Les morsures de l’oubli by Jacqueline Coudière, Demain sera un autre jour by Jean Failler, and L’Enfant du vent des Féroé by Aurélien Gautherie. Other entries include translated works such as Héroïque by Michael Hingson, La Guérisseuse de Catane by Simona Lo Iacono, and Le Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett. Each book has been produced using specific typography and formatting to ensure it is readable for people with visual impairments, whether they were born with the condition or developed it later in life, including seniors affected by AMD or glaucoma. The prize aims to highlight the importance of accessible publishing and give the public a voice in choosing which books deserve recognition. This year, a new requirement has been introduced: all participating books must have received the Large Type / Readability - Accessibility Label. This label was created to address the issue of books labeled as "large type" that may still be difficult for visually impaired readers. The label ensures that books meet specific standards in typography, spacing, layout, contrast, and paper quality, making them truly accessible. The prize is open to everyone, including sighted individuals and those with visual impairments, as well as family members, librarians, and professionals in the publishing industry. Voting will occur in two rounds. From November 19 to December 16, 2026, each person can choose three books from the 14 candidates. The top five finalists will be announced on December 17. A second round of voting will run until January 20, 2027, with the winner announced the following day. The Librairie des Grands Caractères will also set up a voting booth for its readers. Last year's winner was Le vent souffle sur Little Balmoral by Sophie Jomain.
