New submarine cable named Pisces
A new submarine cable named Pisces will be deployed in the Atlantic Ocean, connecting Ireland to France, Spain, and Portugal. The project involves Orange, along with its partners Equitix and MDM.Cable details and route
The cable, which is nearly 3,125 kilometers long, will be equipped with 16 pairs of optical fibers and will start in Galway (Ireland), pass through Saint-Hilaire-de Riez (France), then Sopelana (Spain), and end in Carcavelos (Portugal). The deployment is scheduled for 2028.Orange's previous project
Orange had previously announced in September a project to lay a cable between Réunion and South Africa. The Pisces cable will improve data exchanges between Ireland, where most of the submarine cables crossing the Atlantic land before continuing to Europe, and the Old Continent.Ireland's role as a data hub
Ireland is a hub for cloud giants, with Dublin being the third region in the world with the most data centers, behind Virginia and Beijing. The European Union will financially participate in this project, allowing Ireland to benefit from more direct links with the Old Continent without having to go through the United Kingdom.
