Olympic swimmer Florent Manaudou visits Tahiti to conduct training sessions and share his expertise with local swimmers.
Manaudou visits Tahiti for swimming events
Olympic swimming champion Florent Manaudou made his first public appearance in Tahiti on October 24, 2026, at the Pater pool, where he joined a Halloween party organized by the Polynesian Swimming Circle (CNP) alongside his coach and friend Quentin Coton.Training sessions planned for Tahiti
Manaudou and Coton are in Tahiti to conduct two swimming training sessions, scheduled for October 30 to November 1 and November 6 to 8. They are also meeting with children, as they did during their visit, and Manaudou said they are trying to give back to the Tahitian hospitality they received.Origins of the Tahiti project
The project began when the secretary of the CNP, Natalie Meynard, contacted Manaudou and Coton after they created "Stage 21." Meynard described the process as casting a bottle into the sea, which eventually reached them. They spent a year developing the project, which Coton called a bit crazy since it is the first time they are relocating outside of France.Reasons for choosing Tahiti
Manaudou said they did not immediately accept the project because it required organizing, but he noted it is easier to accept a project in Tahiti than in the Creuse region of France, especially with the cold in October-November. He also recalled visiting Polynesia about ten years ago for the Tahiti Swimming Experience and thought it would be a good idea to export their program there.Training approach and philosophy
Coton described a typical training day as focusing on technical expertise and sharing experiences. While swimming is central to their training, they also work on mental and physical preparation to help everyone progress. Manaudou emphasized the importance of leading a group and passing on what he has learned, while also stressing the need to keep a smile and spread joy around the pools.Advice for Pacific Games swimmers
Manaudou encouraged swimmers preparing for the Pacific Games to be hosted by Tahiti next year to enjoy the experience and not put too much pressure on themselves. He shared his own experience of competing in the Olympic Games and encouraged swimmers to live this unique moment to the fullest.Future projects and expansion
Looking ahead, Manaudou mentioned he has already started some projects in cinema, including the series À priori. Regarding swimming, he expressed a desire to continue the training sessions and possibly expand the project to New Caledonia in the future. Coton added that they might alternate between Tahiti and New Caledonia every year and that returning to Tahiti will always be a pleasure, though they cannot yet promise anything for the future.
